REVIEW: Srixon ZX7 Driver

Launch It!!

Standing on the tee box invokes all kinds of feelings.  Fear, Anticipation, Worry, Joy, Excitement, Hope, Confidence, Etc.  We’ve all been there with the full range of emotion on the first tee or the 18th tee.  We rehearse in our heads what we want to see, but sometimes  what has happened  creeps into our minds.  But no matter the emotions, the our vision for a drive, we find great joy in seeing the ball launch toward the fairway.  The Srixon ZX7 offers one of the most beautiful ball flights as it launches the ball tee shot after tee shot.

The Srixon ZX 7 driver is described as the club that gives you control.  It is lower spin, adjustable and tunable for ideal drives.  I have the fairly basic set-up with the Project X HZRDUS shaft Smoke Black 60 in 6.0 along with the 9.5* head.  I didn’t mess with settings, but left them neutral.  This paired up very well with my swing for a low spin, high launch, flat flight for long carry and some nice roll out.  There are however many options when it comes to fitting or adjustment with the rear weights, shaft options and hosel adjustments.  I found really good results as is, so I didn’t mess with the settings.

The Srixon ZX7 driver has a nice compact look with a fairly tall face.  This is appealing to me as I even liked the smaller than 460cc heads in the past.  The crown has visible carbon and no alignment aid.  This clean look with the black face sets up very nicely behind the ball.   The combo looks pretty stealthy and offers excellent muted sound at impact.  The combo is going to appeal to a wide range of golfers, especially those that aren’t looking for flashy looks, just excellent performance.

The Srixon ZX7 driver launches the ball.  It is on the higher hitting of 9.5* drivers I have hit, but yet it doesn’t balloon or float, but quickly flattens out and carries.   I think that rear weights really create that balanced initial launch which really is pretty to watch as the ball sails out toward the fairway.  I wouldn’t say it is the most forgiving driver, those loose swings are going to get loose results.  This one one correct a slice or fade or mishit like some, but rewards good strikes with great results.  This is kind of what one might expect from a driver aimed a lower handicap golfers.

The Srixon ZX7 driver is a joy to hit on the course.  It launches the ball with power, height and distance.  It isn’t the lowest spinning driver, but certainly toward lower spin.  The feel and consistency when good swings are put on it certainly makes driving the ball fun.  The “Rebound Frame” certainly offers great energy transfer into each hit.  This creates consistent launch parameters so that hit after hit feels and performs pretty much the same.

The Srixon ZX7 is a great new driver that will appeal to the better and more consistent swinger.  The flight of drives with this club are as pretty as any I’ve every swung.  It offers a whole bunch of adjustments if you want to dial in some specific details, but right off the rack it performs very well for me.  This club might be flying under the radar, but just like Srixon ZX7 irons, they are churning out some outstanding clubs.  Give this driver a chance, it looks good and launches the ball.
