In mathematical terminology X is an unknown factor. When Project X was first launched, it may have been an unknown shaft company, but not anymore. Project X is best known for its steel iron shafts. In 2017 Project X steel shafts won 6 times on the PGA tour. Add to that the vastly popular Project X HZRDUS black and yellow shafts in the winners bag 9 times on Tour = Validation. New to 2018 for Project X  is a wave of shafts named EvenFlow trying to crash the party.
The name of the shaft comes from the technology that produces an “even” bend profile which transfers shaft load more efficiently throughout the swing to create maximum energy release at impact. What I liked about both shafts was the “even” feel at impact, very crisp and solid.  While I really liked this “even” feel, it is somewhat unique, most shafts have a kick point feel or a distinct transition, but this have a “whip” sensation that you will notice on the first swing.  They matched the paint to the name of this shaft rather impressively; it has this cool swirl/wave look from top to bottom.

PROJECT X EVENFLOW BLUE/BLACK SHAFTS
The EvenFlow Blue and Black shafts have about a degree higher Torque and are about 3 grams heavier than the HZRDUS shaft line-up they complement.  The weight suited my preferences better than the HZRDUS shafts, which I found to be below or above the right weight for peak performance in my swing. The major difference between the shafts was the feel at the top of my swing. The Blue shaft felt more flexible and I had less control. The Black shaft felt a bit stiffer and more solid at the transition point of my swing which is why I believe the numbers were better between the shafts in testing.

Blue Color is the EvenFlow Black — Red Color is the EvenFlow Blue

The most interesting part about my EvenFlow testing is that the Black is marketed are the lower launch/lower spin and the Blue is the higher launch/ higher spin which proved to be the opposite for my swing.  I believe some of that is the feel in my back swing which allowed me better transition into the ball getting more optimal numbers with the black, even getting higher launch than the blue.  This just proves again the value of fitting.  Not every shaft performs the same for every golfer.

Summary

The Project X EvenFlow Black and Blue shafts offer one of the most unique feels in a golf shaft.  You will immediately notice a different transition, a different kind of smooth and a different kind of good.  It is highly likely that you will find really great results with one of these shafts.  They have been popular in consumer fittings and have been added to a number of pros bags.  You might just want to catch the EvenFlow wave and ride it to success in your bag.
