REVIEW: Callaway X Forged CB Irons

Fined Tuned by A.I. for Precision & Performance
What is the most important feature of irons?  The answer to this question may depend on your skill.  For some it might be distance, for others it might be forgiveness, for someone else it might be launch, and yet still others it might be speed.  No matter what you think is the most important features, the irons that hit the ball the closest to the hole should lead to the lowest scores.  As you move from game improvement irons to players irons the differences get smaller and smaller and having an iron fine tuned for precision and performance is what will set one iron apart from another.  The Callaway X-Forged CB irons are fine tuned by A.I. to achieve maximum precision and performance.
The Callaway X Forged model goes back numerous years.  It has always been Callaway’s players iron set which has just a touch more forgiveness than a blade, but certainly designed for the better golfer.  They have often been in the bags of tour pros.  The X Forged CB irons are no different.  They offer the feel and looks of a forged players irons, with A.I. fine tuning in the cavity back to help a wider range of golfers with some forgiveness.

The Callaway X Forged CB irons come stock with a Project X IO shaft that is designed to match each irons head.  While Project X  and my swing typically haven’t gotten along(ex. EvenFlow), I found a little tweak to my mindset and suddenly this combo became one of the best I’ve hit.  They launch high, holder their line and stick on the greens.  The feel is just a touch more responsive than a standard Project X iron shaft.  This helped me control shots and feel the club head during the swing.  It took a couple rounds, but once I got connected to these irons, the precision and performance really came through.

The Callaway X Forged CB irons offer excellent performance.  I found myself over the flag on numerous approaches, but literally right over the flag, only a couple yards long with regularity.  I didn’t need to adjust a full club one way or the other, but really liked that these irons rarely came up short on approach shots.  I don’t need distance, but I also don’t want to come up short on every iron shot.  Since I’ve been using some sort of shot tracking system for the last 5  years, I have my distances pretty dialed in.  These area  few yards longer, but nothing crazy.  They launch pretty high and land softly so you can really attack flags with these irons.

The Callaway X Forged CB irons really grabbed my attention when I started looking at my scorecards over the last few rounds with them.  I felt like I was in a Little winter slump with my game.  I broke out of that slump with these irons.  I started really hitting precise shots with these irons that dropped my scores.  I shot my best round in 2021 with these in the bag.   I think what Callaway did with A.I. really fine tuned each club for ideal spin, launch, distance, forgiveness and accuracy is the real key to success.  The insertion of tungsten in internal and external location allow for CG movement and proper swingweighting for ideal performance.

The Callaway X Forged CB irons are easy to hit in the long irons.  I was able to bomb the 4-iron with ease.  It isn’t quite a hybrid/utility irons, but certainly one of the easiest long irons I’ve hit.  As you work through the set, the gapping stays very consistent from club to club.  As you get all the way down to the short irons, the precision “circle” just kept getting smaller and smaller.  For whatever reason, par 3 holes have a times been a weakness of my game, but with the X Forged CB irons in the bag, I started hitting every par 3 green.  Not only was I hitting the greens, but setting myself up for birdie putts.

While the Callaway X Forged CB irons took a couple of rounds to get dialed in (mostly my swing) they became one of the top performing irons I’ve ever hit.  I am impressed with how precisely they hit the ball.  The combination of launch, spin, forgiveness, distance and feel make these one of the best irons for 2021.  A.I. fine tuned these irons for the better irons player.  These clubs really perform at the highest level.
