REVIEW: Callaway MAVRIK Pro Hybrid

Hybrid Shots Like The Pros Hit

While there hasn’t been much professional golf to watch lately with the cancellation of almost all golf events due to the coronavirus, we still have in our memories those amazing shots that pros hit. We’ve watched them line up a shot and execute with precision an amazing shot that we only wish we could hit. I realize that it is mostly about the golfers talent and the club, but every once and a while a club helps you hit those kind of shots too. The Callaway MAVRIK Pro hybrid is one of my favorite new clubs for 2020 which helps hit those “pro” style shots you’ve seen hit. They packed a whole bunch of technology into this versatile club.

Hybrids tend to be a club that every golfer needs, but doesn’t get the attention of the other clubs like drivers or irons. Everyone wants the newest driver tech or those amazing looking irons, but the hybrid just kind of get a “whatever”. But lets be honest, the hybrid can be one of the most important clubs in the bag. Long par 3s, approach shots, rescue shots, tight tee balls, and even around the green bump and runs. You could actually plan almost an entire round with just a hybrid. The Callaway MAVRIK Pro Hybrid is their best version yet. It is aimed at the better golfer and can produce those “pro” shots.

The Callaway MAVRIK Pro hybrid starts with a great shape that sets up the ability to hit great shots. The shape is compact and more fairway wood styled. It is thin without a tall toe. This helps avoid the dreaded left with a hybrid. The thin shape also creates confidence out of the rough to cut through and extract the ball from taller grass. The low profile looks great at address. It also sets up very square so it doesn’t look like it is going to hook the ball even before the shot like many hybrids do. This really is one of the best shaped hybrids I’ve seen in years.

The tech of the Callaway MAVRIK Pro hybrid is what makes all the difference. The main tech points are Jailbreak, Flash Face SS20, Face Cup and AI designed. This combination means fast ball speeds, great flight, and forgiveness. The ball just explodes off the face. It feels like the hottest hybrid I’ve hit. While the forgiveness comes in consistent ball speeds, it isn’t going to cure a slice. This hybrid is at the opposite end where it will help cure a hook. I found it not extreme, but neutral hitting. I also liked that it doesn’t hit the ball high for its loft. I’m sure we’ve all seen how the same degree club can hit very different flights. The MAVRIK Pro hits very strong, flat shots. I also really liked this for control and when dealing with windy conditions.

The Callaway MAVRIK Pro hybrid shines like a pro on the course. I’ve found it to be one of the best hybrids I’ve ever hit. It can hit all the shots it is called on with ease. It is long with strong straight flight. I like that it doesn’t really favor a side, just straight. Off the tee it is a monster, almost too long. The KBS Tour Prototype Hybrid shaft is another great part of this club as it bridges the steel/graphite shaft bridge. It has qualities of both that make it a perfect compliment to this head. Smooth feel with strong launch are part of this “pro” shot hitting club. The Black color is an added bonus to this sleek looking combo.

While it seems like drivers and irons are always the talk of the town, the Callaway MAVRIK Pro hybrid needs to be part of your club discussion. It is the one club you could put in your bag that makes a big difference this season. You could actually play a whole round with just this club and probably score pretty well. The combination of shape and tech make this the perfect club for the better golfer to fill that transition spot from woods to irons. If you want to hit those “pro” shots, you need a pro hybrid. Callaway has a real winner with the MAVRIK Pro Hybrid.
